Why Raise a Livestock Project?

Developing responsibility by daily feeding and care, observing animals for health problems, and understanding that a living creature is dependent for food, health, and vigor are just a few things students learn from a livestock project that cannot be developed any other way.  Students also learn time management, money management, and competitive skills such as grooming, exercising, and showmanship.

Raising animals can take a great deal of hard work and the financial rewards may be minimal. What is gained though is a feeling of self-confidence and accomplishment. Following through on the commitment of being there every day for an animal that is completely dependent on the student for nourishment and care pays off in a more independent, conscientious young person.

Competitive livestock projects take even more time and effort but if properly managed, can result in champion animals. Satisfaction and cash awards go to many students that do a good job in raising show animals.
