Mr. Keven Smith

Ron Whitson Ag Science Center Facilities Manager

I am a 1984 graduate of Tarleton State University. While at Tarleton I majored in Ag-Ed with a minor in Animal Husbandry.  Since graduation, I have added multiple endorsements on my teaching certifications in agriculture. In addition to certifications in ag, I hold certifications with NCCER in safety, welding, carpentry and plumbing. Before coming to Mansfield, I have taught in four districts that were Class A six-man to Class 3-A . Throughout my career, FFA members and students under my direction have competed successfully in CDE’s, LDE’s, speaking events, livestock and ag-mechanics shows ranging from the district level to the winning on the national stage. The 2018-19 school year will signal my 32nd year in agriculture education.

Prior to teaching, my employment includes working at a packing plant; oilfield sales; landscaping and cowboy. I am married with two adult children, a daughter and a son. My daughter has given us two grandchildren. My son is employed at Hi=Pro Feeds where he is the national bulk feeds coordinator. In addition to family, I also enjoy working with and competing on our family horses, primarily in calf roping. Gardening is something that  I attempt each year and find very rewarding .Additionally, I enjoy listening to and reading about veterans of World War 2,Korea and Vietnam. Some of my students have recorded veteran’s oral history for the Library of Congress’s Veterans History Project.

I am excited about being the Director of Agriculture Educational Activities at the Ron Whitson Ag Science Center.  I look forward to continue working with the students, parents and staff both directly and indirectly, who have a vested interest in making Mansfield ISD a cut above the rest.
